HD Radio in 2000 Durango
Hi all,
I read the thread on removing a stereo from a 2000 Durango, but I got a bit confused as the thread went (the people there clearly had more knowledge about different gens of Durango than I do, etc.). So I want to be clear before I rip out the stereo.. ;-)
Ok, so here is the thread: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...o-removal.html
So, do I just pull out something that is directly around the stereo to access the bolts, or do I have to take the whole panel off? Either way, do I need any special tools to do this? Do I need to unplug the battery before taking wires off?

if your dash looks like this you need to pull a large portion of it off in order to get the radio out

however if your dash is different, then there should be a bezel which just pops off that you need to remove

Ok doc you have my setup, first you'll have to get a regular butter knife and stick it in the bottom right (passenger side) corner and you'll feel a little tab. Press that in the the fascia piece should start coming undone. I recommend pushing in the parking brake, putting the gear shifter in the lowest gear, and tilting the steering wheel full down.
Once the fascia cover is off it's smooth sailing from there. There's 2 bolts on the radio keeping it in and once you remove those (I believe 1/2" socket) you can slide the radio out.
Very easy install compared to other vehicles I've worked on IMO. Be careful taking out the fascia cover that you don't break the tabs.
When replacing the fascia cover just put it back in place the pop it back on, very easy!
Oh, and FYI its much easier in the future when asking questions regarding the dash components, that you state it's between 1998-2000.

Be sure to PM hydrashocker. Not sure what you're planning on doing with the old radio if you're replacing it, but that's the radio hydra is looking for so I'm sure if you were wanting to sell it, he'd buy it! That's the nice radio with the CD player and equalizer!
Thanks so much all! The install went very swimmingly. I even pulled off the panel below it (unscrewing it) so that I could run some wires from the back of the radio to the HD radio unit; it worked out well. Thanks again for the advice and instructions ;-)
