I actually just replaced my fan clutch 2 days ago because I never heard my old one. It was bad. Now I hear the new one for about the first 10 or 15 minutes of driving and after that it dis-engages. It is very loud though at first start-up. It will engage if I come to a light or come to a stop. Is this normal?

Yeah that it normal. And that is the what I am addressing. I dont like how loud it is and I dont like it engaging when the engine isnt over heated and when its 32 degrees outside. I can understand if its a typical 100 degree summer day here in omaha but its freezing out, literally.

Ya, its cold here too. It engages at red lights on my way home from work when its in the 20's. Before I replaced it I didnt know it was going to be this loud. It feels like the truck has about half the power when the fan is engaged too. I watched my mileage counter last night go from 9 mpg when the fan was engaged to 16 when it dis-engaged.

Yeah I hear you. I read that while engaged it can steal anywhere from 15-20hp from you. I usually get about 16-18mpg regardless but I didn't get it for its eco friendly ways. The noise just really irritates me, I find myself flooring it to make the fan disengage sooner just to avoid the noise it makes. That's why I want to just remove the thing and see what my results are.

If you don't like to hear the fan then why don't you just remove it and go to an e-fan modification instead.

It is normal to hear the clutch engage at cold start up for the first few minutes and on a new one it will loosen up after it wares in, but just siting for a few minutes at every light and being 32 F outside temp, well it sounds like yours is on the way out and needs to be replaced. Also, you can always put a louder muffler on it so you can hear the motor.....LOL

I just read an entire thread where IndyD installed an electric fan and it looks like a lot of work.

Not really!

But if you don't use it for work why not follow his lead and that will fix your issues.

Yeah I know. I'm not saying that I will never use it for work but I figure if I can get a big enough E fan then it shouldn't be a huge worry. I'm still concerned with disassemby, wiring, and reassembly. If I knew someone personally that should assist me with this then I would jump right on it.
