Fan Clutch
Ive heard two sides I have heard that the clutch is bad for the fact that The fan from start up to shut down the fan stays running Also I have heard the fan is supposed to stay running please help mr i have new clutch already just want to ensure i dont waste my time hassling that darn water pump Pully to get it to stay still lol thanks for the help.
the clutch fan SHOULD BE SPINNING WHENEVER THE ENGINE IS ON, however it should not be making a whole lot of noise while the engine is on
simple way to check the clutch is to spin the fan by hand with the engine off, if the fan doesnt spin its seized, replace the clutch, if it spins 1/4-1/2 a turn, its fine, do nothing else, if it spins more than 1/2 a turn its worn out, replace the clutch

This is what I just found:

Originally got it from my younger brother who has been a mechanic for 30 years.
I have done the newspaper thing with an old radiator rubber hose and it works.
On one vehicle the fan blades stopped and on another they did not.
Good luck

i can not recommend doing that test, putting anything near the moving fan blades is a recipe for disaster IMO, someone is going to do it and loose a hand, NEVER EVER PUT ANYTHING NEAR A RUNNING FAN OF ANY KIND even if its not your hands going near the fan, if a blade grabs whatever you put near it that object WILL be thrown by the blade, you COULD (depending on what you are using) damage the fan blade, or your property, or even get hit w/ the projectile yourself
Yeah I'll be honest, if you are stupid enough to try something like that, then I would only hope you lose your hand. Those fans have a lot of power and sticking anything in the fan blades is never a good idea.
Basically, if you move the fan and it feels like you're trying to turn it in frozen molassaes, it's good it'll turn, but not spin. If you can spin it freely, you need to replace it. Same thing for when it's stuck in one position. No movement is bad.

Im actually thinking about just removing my E-fan all together and just see if it over heats without it. Summers here in Nebraska can be rough but I don't do any towing. If it gets too hot then ill just put it back on.
