rear end gearing
I lost ONLY 1 mpg on the highway with the 4.56:1 gears.
So, now I can race, er, I mean drive around town with no mpg penalty AND still have great power when towing.
those two statements are contradictory, first you lost 0 mpg, then you lost 1, the two numbers are NOT equal to each other, you might want to be more specific when you mention this in the future

It's two separate numbers because one is for CITY mileage and the other is for HIGHWAY mileage.
CITY = NO LOSS
HIGHWAY = LOST 1 MPG
Is that clear enough for you?
either that or stop drinking while posting(this is all mr. morgans fault), your right, my bad
however your results are still not the norm, most people loose mpgs when going to higher gearing in the rear

Only sharing what I have PERSONALLY experienced. I've had the 4.56s on there for over 2 years so definitely long enough to know.
Oh btw, LOOSE is the opposite of tight. LOSE is the opposite of gain.
Usually you won't loose mileage in the city going a lil lower gearing because it take the engine less effort to get up to speed and that is where you burn the most fuel. When I switched to mine I went from 4-6 MPG's in the city to 8 MPGs in the city.
On the hyw, well just did the mileage last night with only 1 quick stop, went 79 miles on 7.2 Gal so I got 11 MPG. I went down like 1-2 MPG's but were talkin about a V10 and not a V8.
What I'm tryin to say is, the best thing is to do your home work and use a calculator one of these: http://www.ringpinion.com/Calculators.aspx and find out your optimal engine RPM for torque curve and HP and the speed that you usually travel. Then get tires and gearing to get you to that optimization.
In my truck, my best is between 2500 and 2900 RPM's. So with my tires and gearing I will be pulling my trailer at just under that because I was shooting for fuel mileage as well. At 75 mph I am at 2350 RPM in overdrive. But that leaves me room so when I down shift like on hills that I can keep my power band or when runnin hills and city I can lock out and run in the 1-3 gears.
Remember, my trans says I can tow in overdrive, but the Durango's does not!
