Did it start up when you were in park? If not could be the Neutral Safety switch that's shot. Also, is your shifter orange indicator off at all? If so you can find out how to adjust in the DIY section.

I've never heard of it just slipping and rolling out on the street however.

Also, I have to say this just to make sure but you're sure the shifter was fully in park? Just have to make sure. LOL

there was a recall affecting some 2001-03 durangos for a failure of the park brake interlock which will allow the truck to slip out of park, i would check to see if your truck falls under the recall, go to dodge.com/owners and hit the recall/vehicle information link and enter your VIN #, (or call your local dodge dealer and ask)

from the NHTSA website

Make: DODGE Model: DURANGO
Model Year: 2002
Manufacturer: CHRYSLER LLC Mfr's Report Date: DEC 04, 2007
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 07V555000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT

Summary:
ON CERTAIN VAN AND PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS, THE IGNITION/PARK SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE. THIS CAN ALLOW THE SHIFTER TO BE MOVED OUT OF THE "PARK" POSITION WITH THE IGNITION KEY REMOVED (OR IN THE "LOCK" POSITION). THIS CAN ALSO ALLOW THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED WHEN THE SHIFTER HAS NOT BEEN PLACED IN THE "PARK" POSITION.
Consequence:
EITHER OF THESE CONDITIONS COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY CAUSING A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE GEARSHIFT BLOCKER AND BRACKET ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
Notes:
CHRYSLER RECALL NO. G28. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

and until you get this taken care of please please please, for your own and everyone elses saftey please use the e-brake whenever you park the truck and leave it unattended!!!!

that recall is only for the shifter, key and steering column it self it was letting the shifter come out of part without having the car on or steeping on the brake. i think my prob is in the trans or something. i call dodge and tsi and they said its prob the parking pall/pawl whatever you call it.

yes its for the interlock system in the dashboard, i would still check to see if it applies to your truck and get it fixed, bc i have a feeling that is your issue

Until you get this figured out I would VERY STRONGLY recommend that you use PARKING BRAKE until further notice and also park where your not in any danger of causing damage to other vehicles and property. PARK ON LEVEL GROUND IF POSSIBLE with plenty of protection against rolling back or forward.

Note just because recall was done doesnt mean it was done properly. I would think that if it wasnt done right it would show up long before now but you never know.

EVEN BETTER try not to use vehicle but that may be easier said than done.

NO I am not a lawyer but these days you cant be too careful.
