Yeah, very, very slightly more aerodynamic. Nowhere near enough of a gain to be worth the hassle. Remeber that if you remove it you'll have to take it in to a body shop to have the holes filled in. This will cost you more than you're likely to save at the pump over 5 years.

Oh, and 4.7 liters = 286.811597 cubic inches.

(Google has a nice "hidden" feature called google calculator. You basically enter a math equation in the search box and it spits out the answer. I got that by simply typing in "cubic inches in 4.7 liters".)

not true at all, the roof racks are on built in slides, to remove the racks just push in on the locks (unlock them) and slide them to the back of the truck and remove the plug and lift them off, put the plug back in and you are set to go. now i agree that it is not going to be a significant enough gain in order to be worth the effort to remove, and i personally dont like the look of the truck w/ out them

4.7=287ci of displacement its a volume measure

and sxt is not = sport, they had alot of overlapping features, but iirc they were different trimlines where sxt>sport making sport the base model

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're just talking about removing the two crosspieces. I got the impression that he wants to remove the rack entirely.

(Or maybe the rack on an '02 is an entirely different design than what I have on my 98 and 99???)

i am just removing the cross pieces, however the tracks sit flush w/ the roof so have exactly 0 effect on the aerodynamics of the vehicle, taking them off would be pointless and would leave the big recesses in the room, if he did take them off he would have to have those recesses filled in, you are correct, and im not sure how the 99 racks are set up, they may be different

Mine is a 2000 (pre-cosmetic change) and mine are flush with the roof also and I wouldn't even go through the effort of removing them.

Also to add on the displacement, it is the amount of air "displaced" by the pistons from top dead center to bottom dead center.

The Durango did not have a sport model, in fact there was an SLT and SLT+ 1998-2000 and added the SXT as the base model in 2001. The sport is in the truck line-up (Ram and Dakota) and mainly had matching colored bumpers and tail lights. Mine and hydra's Rams are Sports and the only difference I could tell is different badges on the sides and colored tail lights.

Hmmm......

I have a 98 and a 99. On both the luggage rack consists of two tracks that run fore to aft, and are raised about an inch or so from the roof, and these support two crosspieces that go side to side. Removing mine completely would leave bolt holes in the roof that would need to be patched up....

Sounds like there was a design change on the luggage rack in '00?

Ha ha thanks guys!
Yes I did mean just the removable cross-pieces on the luggage rack, removing the tracks would just be too much! Looking to save every single penny @ the pump with any cheap or no-cost fixes!
AIR displacement! Thank you lol!
And as far as the "sport" trim, I ask that because a lot of times when I try and choose my trimline especially online a lot of times there is only that and no sxt. When I got my D it was completely de-badged except for the sxt on the driver's side door.
I would've quoted everyone but I'm on my phone!

Another random question...
What's the average price on smoky light lenses, front and back? Thinking about doing this sometime this year if my D's internal components play nice! N for those of you taking notes, my CEL is off again...
Still plan on changing out those pesky evap flex tubes in the near future. Cheap fix right?
