5.2 and 5.9 PCM Swapable?

He seemed like an ******* anyway. However I too have done the same swap. It's a pain in the *** for sure but it's not the worst swap Ive ever done. They're close enough that a little bit of grinding , like he said, brings it all together. Still I'd agree with u at least that insults and just being a **** in general weren't really the best way to make a point.

"Edit" my swap was in a Dakota rather than a Durango but I don't know how different that is. I was brought directly to this thread from a Google search about pcm interchangeability not realizing this thread was Durango specific and I just assumed it would be a similar process.

So a 5.2 to a 5.9 swap, eh? Sure! why not? Let me know your thoughts on one engine being internally balanced with the crankshaft and the other being externally balanced with the torque converter....
no really, I have no idea haha. Does either torque converter bolt up to either flexplate? Are the torque converters interchangeable between transmissions? Are flexplates interchangeable between engines? Crank sensor tone ring? Does any of this even really matter eh?

No. It doesn't matter when u aren't messing with flex plates and torque converters. It was a matter of removing the flex plate and getting a flywheel for the 5.9 (when u buy a new flywheel the pilot bearing/bushing should be included in my opinion) and the crank sensor from the 5.2 worked on the 5.9. I drilled it a little and moved it slightly to advance the timing. I didn't see where anyone said anything about being specific to automatic transmissions, I'm not saying it was never said I just may have missed it. I've had enough issues with autos and really I guess it's mostly a personal preference I'll take the manual shift any time it's possible.
If you use the same type 1998-1999 5.9L to 5.9L they should work just fine. Same with 2000-2002 and I think 2003 but unsure. You can also swap a 5.2L PCM from the match years I just posted into a 5.9L and it's going to run, just not to its full potential. You can swap a 5.9L PCM (again using the match years I provided) into a 5.2L, with a boast of more performance (but haven't had anyone test this theory yet).
A 4.7L must be swapped with its exact match because of the 16 and 32 bit systems.
Anyway, I have seen this done a few times as the VIN doesn’t have to match. She should fire. The instrument cluster holds the mileage not the PCM. The reason for it to be flashed is the 5.2L and 5.9L are the same PCM only with a little difference in flash. There are other differences from what I've seen in the earlier years to later years 5.9L (as indicated above in the years) so the newer and later years are not swappable without a flash, in fact I would think they are completely different PCM's.
Now I have everyone confussed, better go to work now........
