You stated that you have a 5.9L, but what else? Is it AWD, 4WD, or 2WD?
I have 5.9l, AWD, 3.92 differential and I average about 13.5 mpg with mostly city driving (with a light foot). My mileage was down to ~12mpg 6 months ago until I did a ton of maintenance like replacing the ignition coil, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, cleaning injectors, etc. Maintenance and quality parts are the key. If you have the 5.9/AWD setup, I seriously doubt you could ever avg above 15mpg city.

not the case, the overhead is known as the lie-o-meter for a reason, it can be off by as much as 5 mpg in either direction, i have seen mine read 23 after a full tank of gas has been run thru it (i reset it every time i get gas,and the best mileage i have EVER gotten out of my truck has been 20.x all highway)
and no removing the driveshaft does NOTHING for mpgs, IMO its a waste of effort bc it cripples the 4wd system
