It is my understanding that the smaller 8.25 inch rear ends went into the Durangos with the NV244 AWD transfer cases since the rearend would never see full engine power.

This would include the RT.

My 01 SLT Plus which came with the NV233 Part Time transfer case had the 9.25 inch rear.
4X2 Durangos also got the 9.25 inch rear end.

In any case, you should be able to find one in a salvage yard. The OEM limited slip carriers were notorious for breaking C clips and self destructing if not caught in time.

I was glad that my 01 had the open carrier.
