Default Hard Shifting Transmission

I just bought a 2001 Dodge Durango 5.9 from a local small used dealer ship. They said when they got the Durango it had a blown tranny and they had a new one put in. They even gave me a year/10,000 mile warranty on the tranny. My concern is when going from a dead stop to about 30-40 and then let off the gas to coast the tranny shifts hard, like it pulls you forward in your seat. Any ideas what is causing this?

start easy, check the fluid level, keep in mind the fluid must be checked with the engine running at operating temperature (drive the ruck 15 miles) with the trans in neutral on a level surface. make sure you only add atf +4 if its low, and keep in mind that overfull is just as bad as low.

I know it isn't low but i never thought it could be bad for it to be overfilled, I'll have to check tomorrow once i get to school. Could it possibly be a bad TPS?

the tranny shifting when you let off and pulling you forward to me sounds like its Downshifting (engine braking effect of some sort) i dont see any way the tps would cause that, you could check the TV cable for proper adjustment the pdf instructions are linked in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum.

I would have the transmission pan dropped and filter and fluid changed and adjusted. If they have put in the wrong fluid it will do this. The correct fluid is ATF+4 and anything else could cause failure (check your owners manual!).

Most likely they put in a junker trans, but they could have rebuilt it fully and there could also be a valve body problem. You could PM master tech
