I am having similar idle issues with my 2000 4.7, 4x4. I have always used platinum plugs since the first tune up. It has 335,000 miles and I am the only owner. It has run perfect and no leaks up to now. Now the idle problem. I have changed plugs, MAP, TPS, IAC, and ECM. Cleaned throttle body. It still dies when I decompress accelerator pedal while driving. Idle surges when in park but stays running.

Well your one of the lucky ones because Platinum don't like to work in these engines, however you do have a 4.7L I would change them out and go OEM cheap Champion Copper plugs.

Did you remove the Throttle Body when you thoroughly cleaned it and did you reset the PCM between each part?

Hey y'all I am new. I just got a 2001 Dakota Sport 5pd with the 4.7 and just under 155k miles. It has a low idle 500 +/- Seems pretty low to me, as I am used to around 650-700 rpm. But from what I have read, that is normal? Also what all is needed for an Engine Tune-up?

While we can definitely help, there is a Dakota specific forum on the site too.

I know i"m reviving an old thread, but I'm having the rough idle, stumbling, and dying on my 2003. also during steady throttle cruise, the rpms have started running up and down as much as 1500. there is a check engine light and when i get it scanned, I am told the code is for a very minor vacuum leak. Two different shops have "fixed" this vacuum leak, but within a month or two, the check engine light comes back on and when scanned I'm told the same thing. I'm lost, please help.

We need the code. Do the key dance and post it, you have a 2003.

Look at the top: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ine-light.html

Sounds like a sensor issue maybe. RPM's bouncing sounds like a throttle position sensor. But thats usually during idle you see rpm's bouncing around not cruising. does it idle rough at start up, once shes warm or both? ive seen peoples cars have rough idles and shut down on them with bad cam sensors once the engine is warm. maybe a map sensor too?

Did the OP ever find the issue? Could possibly a sticking injector once the engine warms up. It could hang open causing more fuel being dumped in. That would also explain the bad gas milage popping in the exhaust and the o2 readings to go up when it starts running rough.
