Make sure it ends in AG though, apparently if it doesn't end in AG it won't work.

Well on the dodge talk forum that part number was what the mopartech guy used and as his name clearly states, he is a dodge technician.

Can you post the part number from the TCM, not PCM. this way I can look it up on mopar web site? And I can also look up the software number and see if there is a update on dealer connect ( just dodge techs ) Which I am too.

The ID I was given was 56041905AD. Or AG? I called a local auto parts place and they have a TCM of 56041905AC. I don't know what all of it means with the letters but I want to make sure I have the best of the software from either 2003 or 2004.

Okay the number you posted is for a jeep grand chrokee 4.7 with a 5 speed controller. If you want the durango controller for 4.7 engine, its 56040617AE and its been supersedenced to a RL040617AK. This is a mopar reman part number and it will need to be program by the dealer. 2002 was the last year for the TCM as a stand along controller, because in 2003 the TCM became part of the JTEC/PCM controller.

So what does all this mean? As far as I can tell the only difference between the jeep and dodge controller is the shifts are firmer and the OD kicks in at a higher speed.

I don't know how the jeep controller is going to shift in a durango. If you end up replacing the controller I would use the dodge reman number, But thats up to you. If you do use the jeep controller, do post on how it shifts. It would be good to hear if you had any problem or no problems.

I'd read that the Jeep one worked fine, but I can't say from experience. I never saw anything about being able to buy a 5 speed TCM for a Durango, so I had no idea it was possible. I am still curious about all this too, but I don't know if adding the 5th gear would make much of a difference on either the MPG (I know it wouldn't help at all in city driving), or performance on the highway. I guess my hesitation is not knowing enough about this, and I also don't want to spend the money and not get anything too special for it.
