I didn't do it the last tranny service that I performed and I wish that I had. It sure would make fluid changes quicker and neater, especially when you're not working on a lift. I don't know about anyone else, but I've never had good luck with dropping part of the pan and allowing the oil to spill over one side. I always end up with a mess on the garage floor afterwards!

That's my issue; it's messy and tranny fluid doesn't clean up easily. Don't get me wrong, I'll still pull the pan to swap filters and adjust the bands, but I'd like to drop an empty pan. I don't want to do it if it's going to cause other problems like leakage though.

Agreed. If you're pan is new or in perfect shape, I don't think there would be a problem with it. The B&M one looks good.

Tranny fluid IS a pain to clean up!

I have a MAG-HYTEC transmission pan and differential cover and they're one of the best purchases I've made. The transmission pan seems to dissipate heat much better and the added luxury of a drain plug on the pan makes it very nice when I'm just wanting to put new transmission fluid in the pan.

I love the way that looks, Widow, but Holy Helll... $250??? Too rich for my blood. I'm saving my money for something a whole lot more fun... Like braces and college. Ugh! LOL.

You can get drain plugs from many places including B&M. You drill a hole in the lower side of the pan and have the inner nut welded into place. This insures against leaks.

By drilling a whole, I'm curious if that will compromise the integrity of the metal... Is it forged or coated in any material to discourage rust? I know that with inferior metals, the surfaces near a puncture can be weakened or susceptible rust. Is this even a reasonable concern?

The dealer stock pan that I replaced mine with looked like a plain old steel stamped part that was dip-painted, and rather poorly at that! I wouldn't think twice about drilling a hole in it. Kicking myself that I didn't do it also.

They are steel pans, not a inferior metal.

This is what I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.com/80250-Automati.../dp/B00029WR78
