OK. It runs...still makes noise!! Don't know what to do except run it till it blows up!

By the way, it does run better with the new tensioner.

OK. I took some time off for my sanity. I have had this thing parked and off of the insurance. Time to try and fix this thing. Anyone have a clue? It runs fine but makes that "noise" that sounds like it is coming from the passenger side in front of the engine. Everything points to a timing chain problem....has anyone heard this noise before?

I got the timing cover off and I don't see any problems. I am thinking of putting the damper on and running it without the cover to see or hear what is going on. Here are some photos of the tensioners. They are not at the same height, but I don't know if that is a problem. Someone on another forum suggested lifters...but I don't know what to look for. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

dont run the engine with the timing cover off, you will have no lubrication if you do that and you will have a big *** mess of oil to try and clean up.

And nothing up in the cam shaft area seems to be grinding?

I took the caps off the cam bearings last time and could not see any issues. Maybe removing the cam and checking the lifters will tell me something?

Took the cam off. Inspected all of the rockers and they appear to be fine. Pulled the lifters and since I am not sure how they are supposed to be, I did find some differences. Two of the lifters do not have any play...they are stiff and you can't push the plunger down. The rest of them have some play. Which way is right? Here is a photo.

Try putting them in a small clamp and put a little pressure on them to squeeze the oil out, and then see if the plunger is free. Yes, they should have some give. Under the plunger (the round portion that sticks out) is a spring that will allow the plunger to move up and down when there's no hydraulic pressure behind it (oil). If they don't free up after you squeeze the oil out, they're bad. I don't know what sound it was making, but if it was a severe tapping or clattering, it's possible you've found part of the problem...I say "possible" and "part of", because, knowing the 4.7 is an "interference" motor, it could've caused some damage to the valves and pistons, also, if they weren't bleeding off at all like they should have been. That could've caused the valve(s) to collide with the piston at TDC on whatever cylinder(s) were affected.
