Front End Suspension Lifts
Hey guys! I don't actually have a Durango but I'm looking at one on Craigslist right now (150k miles, 5.9 slt, $2700) so I've started learning about them! I don't think I understand torsion bars very well (came from the Jeep scene.) So for the rear I could do a shackle and AAL lift for almost 3" in the rear, butwhat about the front? I see torsion keys, and that you can crank the torsion bars for about 2". What would it take to get around 4" in the front? Or is that just too much for the front drive shaft? Thanks for the info guys! Links would be appreciated.
I just did the t/s lift myself yesterday, it was easy and looks good. It was cheap and easy, after all my looking, to get 3-4" you'll spend anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 for 3-4". For 2" and 31's you can do it for $50 a 6 pack and a little cussing.
Honestly mtnbiker, you only can get 2" total lift out of the torsion bar in the front and shackles I wouldn't trust higher than 2".
Zachk, to achieve what you want is very simply and not expensive at all. To achieve a total of 5" all around you are going to want to purchase and install 2" shackles for the rear and crank the torsion bar 8 turns for a total of 2" lift, plus purchase and install a 3" body kit that includes blocks that go between the body and frame.
This is by far the easiest and most cost effective way to be able to run 35" tires and have a nice looking lift. As for instructions for the torsion bar/shackle lift, check out this how-to and it should send your mind in the right direction!

WhiteWidow, thats what I did was the 2", what I was trying to say is the 3-4" is expensive. However, I wouldn't consider doing a body lift only because if you do wheel, you will not have any travel in your suspension at that point, well, no more than stock. If you are only going for looks, then it's great, but if you want to wheel, an actual lift will be the better way to go.
Nope, no issues with the radiator lining up and IIRC, with the body lift kit it includes both a steering linkage extension along with a transfer case extension.
Ok, interesting. I heard that some of the Dakota guys were having some trouble with the steering being kinda sloppy with the extension. Plus it's just kinda frowned upon to go with 3" of BL whichever vehicle you're looking at.. Is there no one that makes a body lift that's only 1-2 inches tall?
Thanks!
Thanks!

There is nothing wrong at all with a 3" body lift. Of the twelve Pa body lifts i have installed (correctly) not one has had any added play. Worn steering parts or derelict installs would be my guess on issues. The general concensus with body lifts is that the raised body height contributes to rollovers due to the raised center of gravity. Yes it does alter, but the overall adjustment is miniscule. If you put yourself in a position to roll, bodylift or not it will happen its all common sense. Ive put a stocker with t/s, 3" body through hell with frame twist etc 80k miles, also a d with over 450hp up mountains of rocks hours on end with PA 3" body lift, i'll stand behind them...
