Default 2000 Durango 5.9 maintenance

Hi everyone, I just bought a 2000 Durango with 200k miles on it. I really love the vehicle, but since it has so many miles I would like to provide the proper maintenance it needs. Can anyone tell me what I should be doing and checking on this thing to ensure another 100k miles? Any specific things I should know about? Engine, axles, T-case, etc. Thanks!!!

I would do everything Srch4me said. I would also check your cooling system and see if its all OEM. The reason I say that is when I bought my 99 Durango, it had 190,000 miles on it. In the last year I have replaced the OEM water pump, the radiator, transmission cooler, 1 freeze plug, and as of last week the Ignition Coil. All due to age and high mileage. Things can and will break on a vehicle with miles that high. However with proper maintenance you can get many more years out of it...

Dom,

Hello! Join us for our Durangoville Detriot event in August and you can see many other Durango's to gauge yours from. We are touring the Gen3 plant, taking in Woodward, the Chrysler Museum and more!

Thanks for all the replies. I will surely do everything mentioned, as I am very meticulous when it comes to maintenance. IndyDurango, what exactly is this "Durangoville"? I actually don't live to far from the Walter P. Chrysler museum. Been there a few times before.

There are some specifics about your vehicle you should research. For instance, you need to determine when your D was manufactured because the 2000 model year underwent a few midyear changes. For example, the intermediate steering shaft changed, as did the CV axles. Also, I believe 2000 was the final year for the 5.2l engine.
Do you know what size engine you have? The 5.2 & 5.9 both have distributors with wiresets. The 4.7 uses COPs.
Be certain to use only ATF+4 in your transmission. Also, never use platinum spark plugs in your engine. Durangos do NOT like them.

Question

I thought you were supposed to use ATF+3? I'm pretty sure that's what my manual said...Anyway I have 4x4 5.9. What would be the best spark-plug's to use?

atf+3 no longer exists... atf+4 is the replacement for it

OEM is Champion Copper Core gapped at 0.040. Some folks have tried Iridium plugs without a problem. I personally stick with the Champions. They do a great job and they are dirt cheap.
