Default Towing capacity '03 AWD Durango Plus

I have a 2003 AWD Durango PLUS, (4-hi/4-lock) 4.7L and am in the market for a travel trailer. I need to know my towing capacity so I don't buy a trailer that is too big? I've done a bunch of research, but none of the numbers i've found specifically refer to the AWD model and I didn't know if that affected towing capacity. I live in Denver, CO so will be traveling into the Rockies a bunch. I also have the factory tow package, but not sure what Class it's rated at, but based on internet research, I think it's Class IV

I wouldn't go above 5500lbs, that is the highest i have seen so far in the 1st gen 4.7l. 5000lbs is safe in the mtns.

get a build sheet from dodge... it will give you your gear ratio and then you can look up the max load capacity and haul rating

yup srch got it, we need gear ratio to give you that number

although if you check the owners manual, the 4x4 rating is the same as the AWD rating

Yep, the lower the ratio the better. The lower ratio will be the bigger number, ex 3.92's are better than 3.55's for towing

Is it safe to assume that the tow package has the lowest gears?

At the top of the section is a "Sticky link" for a DIY and in there is all the towing threads you need, about 1/2 way down: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html

2003 ratings were reduced from 2002 ratings partially based on Government regs. If the above works for your needs, the 2002 will meet or exceed those figures.

Thanks everyone. A quick check of my underside and it's 3.55, which puts me a 4700lbs GTW I believe
