Rearend and brakes
Hello are there any durangos that came with rear disk brakes if so what years? And would i be able to swapp out the rearend and brake set up to my 98 durango durango slt? Thank you
2003 model year was the only one that came with rear discs and yes it can be swapped, but i believe you also need to change out some of the other brake parts (proportioning valve maybe) in order to make it work correctly, for normal driving its not going to give you any significant improvement in braking performance
I see:
PARKING BRAKE
DESCRIPTION
The parking brakes are operated by a system of
cables and levers attached to a primary and secondary
shoe positioned within the drum section of the
rotor.
The drum-in-hat design utilizes an independent set
of shoes to park the vehicle

Old thread, but new News. haha
I just had 4.56 gears put in my '97 Durango and went ahead and put in a '03 rear end with disc brakes. It pretty much was plug and play. I haven't installed a proportional yet though, but will real soon.
I mated the two e-brake cables coming from the rear axle to the main cable that runs to the pedal with my old '97 bracket.

I had to spread both ends open for it to hold as the longer cable end piece is larger than the '97 piece. Plus the shorter cable end piece on the '03 is larger than the '97 end piece.

I went ahead and ordered the '03 bracket and am trying to see if it will work between the '97 main cable and the '03 axle cables.

The way it is setup now with the '97 bracket, even though it is spread apart is working fine. So that is an option on the swap.
