I took my fan off!
MOAR LIES!
I don't to anything really and i've driven my rig around in 110* weather and still haven't had any problems. If you have the factory transmission cooler then it comes on at about 210* (which is pretty hot) but mine usually comes on before that. Also, if you just turn the ac on then the fan will always run.

i believe you mean More... and dodge wouldn't put an extra fan on there if it wasn't a good idea... taking off the fan to save gas is like taking off the ac pulley to save gas... not worth it... sure you may think its great. but in the end is it really? well ill let you decide that after your E-fan dies on you somewhere and your sitting there thinking "f**k i should have left that extra fan on."
I generally agree that the factory doesn't waste money putting on extra parts. Just like gimmicks that add MPG for pennies.
BUT this electric fan seems to move a lot of air. When I had a Trailblazer SS, a popular mod was to swap the mechanical for an efan. I did it and never had an issue. My D fan seems just as powerful. Maybe by 03 they improved them?
The idea of it failing, leaving me stranded seems far fetched. Most vehicles on the road have 1 efan and I don't it's worth worrying about.
Today I drove it around locally with A/C on for about 30 minutes and it was 85F out. Some 30-50mph driving, a little stop & go, some rush hour traffic and the needle didn't make it to halfway. Before the 180 thermo, it went to 50% and stayed, but now I would say it is at 40% and staying.
I will monitor it and report any issues.

I took my clutch fan off 2 years ago and have been fine ever since...I do not tow though...and here in NC, the winters are long...however been through 2 summers and have not had any problems...to each his own..whatever works better for you I guess.
as long as you dont sit in stop and go traffic you probably wont have any problems, but if you do get caught in traffic during the summer the smart money says you will be sorry,
all the facts are out there now (i think) so lets leave everyone to make their own informed (it doesnt feel right to say smart) decisions.

if you keep it in your durango anyways why not just leave it on? instead of having to put it on later. just curious... mike i agree that an e-fan probably is enough but if it was me i would be inclined to be on the safe side and put a double e-fan on or the mechanical fan as well...
