Default No Go Durango

I have a 99 Durango with the 5.9l and a 2001 ram also with the 5.9l. Compared to the ram, the durango has absolutely no power off the line. The engine runs like a top and has no probs winding out, it just acts like its dragging an anchor. I understand that the gear ratios are different and how this might effect performance. I recently had a complete tune up on the durango that included new oxygen sensors, but nothin changed. Would a clogged cat. conv. cause this? The trans. shifts firmly so I'm thinking slippage isnt an issue. Any thoughts would be great.

You could have a clogged cat. You can take it to a muffler shop and have a back presser test done to determine if you have any problems with your cat. You should have it replaced if there is 4 lbs. or greater. The gear ratio difference is different and it is going to drive different. You should have the same trans in that as you have in your truck. Have your trans fully serviced, bands tightened and filter and fluid changed. It would be a great time to put in a trans cooler. Trans temp in that truck run kinda high and if you have a problem it will go quickly. One last thing is that the 5.9 temp runs high 195F. I would drop a 180F. thermostat in before your heads crack which might be your problem. Most 5.9L heads are cracked about 90%. and out of those about 15% can even be fixed. This is a big problem call any machine shop and ask. Let us know if this might have fixed your problem.

Maybe it may be the PCM with its stupid torque management?

I have no idea other than re-programming the PCM using hypertech or superchip programmer? I am pretty sure that is the problem with my Durango R/T. At times, when I really need to get up and go, the Durango seems to stall at the low RPM's but when it revs to 2500 RPM and up, it feels like someone pushed the nitrous button. So driving mainly in town, and running at low RPM's (1200-1500), when I hit the gas, it does nothing, runs sluggish and feels like pulling a trailer. But there are times when it does not do this tho? So this problem is not always consistent.. I do remember that other people posted that the PCM is the brain that controls torque managment.

I have a 03 durango, with a 4.7 . Speaking of the hyper, or superchip, I
got the superchip microtuner, and Man what a difference! I have a completely
funtional hood with K&N cool air kit also. That 4.7 has lots of power now. I love
it!. I have to run premium fuel though. But it is not a huge difference in cost
when you really think about it. And it was worth the money to me to get the
performance that it should have. It runs up grades and does not downshift now,
and runs at lower RPMS .Shift points are more in time with powerband. I have
nothing bad to say about the superchip. I have not checked the miles per gallon
difference yet. Still to new if you know what I mean; I cant seem to keep my foot
out of the throttle ever sense.

Is this a chip or programmer? If it is a chip, your gains and difference in performance won't last long. The PCM will eventually re-adjust itself to adapt to the superchip and all setting will return to normal. This is confirmed by a dodge engineer from the dodge durango club forums. The dodge engineer says that to make the changes permanent on the PCM, you need to buy a reprogrammer, not a piggyback chip.
