Default alarm/keyless entry issue

I just bought a '02 durango r/t tonight, went to get something to eat after buying it. i locked the doors using the door lock switch on the drivers side door, due to the fob needing batteries. i came back out unlocked the drivers side door with the key, opened the door and the alarm started going off. i put the key in ignition to turn off the alarm went and bought batteries for the fob, then tried to unlock the doors with the fob, but it didnt work tried programming the fob, like it says in the owners manual, but it doesnt program the fob so i was wondering if any one had any suggestions.... ive seen in some other posts about the ctm does that sound like the problem or something else?

i tried the alarm reset to see if that would work, so i shut the doors turned the key left, and then right, back to middle removed key and opened door. no alarm that time, relocked the doors using the door lock switch, closed the door, waited for the security light to go to the slow blink, unlocked the door using the key, opened the door and the alarm went off.

in order to program a new fob, you need to have one that already works, if you dont have a working key fob you need to see a dealer to get them programmed.

im really not sure on the alarm, i thought that the alarm was only supposed to set if you used the key fob to lock the truck

apparently it will arm just by locking the doors, i called the dealer i bought it from and they said to turn the key right and left to disarm, i did that and it worked, but it seems like sometimes i have to do it 1-3 times to work. i just listen for all the doors to unlock, then the alarm wont go off. however i'm gonna go get a new key, and fob for it and have the new key, fob, and original fob reprogrammed, maybe the old fob forgot the code due to not having any batteries in it, and sitting for a year of not being used??

Take the keys out of the truck. Disconnect the battery, then manually lock all the doors. Close all doors, wait 2 mininutes and reconnect the battery, then unlock the drivers door with the key, not the remote. This is what I had to do for my 98 after I broke into it after locking my keys in.

It might not be that the battery was bad. On my remotes when I got my D, only one worked despite changing the batteries. I bent the contacts inside the remote so they would have better contact with the battery and circuit board and everything started working perfect.

As far as disarming the alarm, I believe your only two options are using the fob or using a sentry key in the ignition (after setting off the alarm obviously). The service manual does not indicate any unlocking sequence (but try L-R-L-R- Up down select start).

You can disable the alarm system with a DRBIII or by following the sequence in the owners manual.

This is the correct way to reset a factory alarm, it does not work on aftermarket.

+1 You can also disarm the factory alarm following your manul.

DO NOT USE THE KEY FOB WHILE DOING THIS.

This is how to complete a full reset of the alarm.
