There is a gasket between the OEM manifod to the down pipe. This is called the "Donut" gasket because of it's design.

Are you certain? I can't find a donut listing for that anywhere? It is leaking so I'm not sure what to do.

I just replaced a "Y" pipe and i DID NOT use a gasket and it sealed up nice.. the ends of the "Y" pipe are tapered out and that metal bracket that the bolts go thru is designed to push it up against the manifold to create a seal... my guess is the bolts need to be a bit tighter.. i used a impact driver to tighten mine.

In my search for my 1993 Dakota, 3.9, I found this, again. Mine only has one O2 sensor just in front of cat converter. I've got to replace it today, but there are Sequences™ one must follow:

1. Go get PB Blaster. Must drive other car to keep Dakota cold.
2. First store doesn't have it, go Walmart (I been telling y'all boys you WILL go to Walmart).
3. Spray and wait. While waiting, spend two hours looking for that special wrench you bought 5 years ago when you bought the sensor. You were planning to replace it, but Sequences™ got in your way.
4. You never found that special Sensor Removing Wrench®, so you spend an hour trying to find vicegrips (you just saw them two months ago).
5. You are now worn slap out, so you just go fishing. Except for the Sequences™ required to get fishing tackle and boat ready.
6. You go back to your easy chair and rest. Wasted another day working on old truck and fishing. Absolutely nothing was accomplished.
