got all but one coil of, the last one I cant get any wiggle out of to work it free. I think somebody before me forgot to put some lube on before installing. any tips or ideas? ok to hit it with some moveit?

 

which coil is it that is stuck? i would try to get something under the tab that bolt goes through to hold it in and pry it up, i have never seen them get stuck before.

 

number 5, 3rd cylinder from the front on the left side. I got a screw driver under the tab and using the fuel rail as a pivot put some upward pressure on it while trying to wiggle back and forth and it just wont go. I can turn it side to side the little bit before the bushing hits the stud, took a while to get it doing that. going to see if theres room to get a dremel with cutoff disc in to cut the stud below the tab so I can get more of a turn on it. failing that im contemplating breaking it, its on the engine I just bought so who cares if I dont have 8 spare coils *L*

I had some other really hard ones to get out before this one, they came out dry with no lube and had some white corrosion powder on them, the bore they came out of looked fine thought.

 

if the engine isnt in a truck i would see about putting something around it ( a piece of rope or somethign) and try standing on top of (or over) the engine and pull up, id expect the coil to come flying out when it finally lets go, but it should come out that way (especially if you dont mind breaking it)

 

well it moves up and down about 1/8 inch now. hadn't thought of pulling straight up with a rope, just been prying up while wiggeling it with a giant pair of pliers.

im thinking even if I break it off, its still going to be a royal pita to break up the left over bits and get them out of the spark plug hole.

 

finally got it out and I didn't even break it, lots of markin in it but no breakage. more prying upward on it while turn it side with a large cresent wrench and lots of silicone lube spray. pushed it back down a few times when it got stuck again but it finally came out. wont go back in now even with the o-ring removed thought. going to slot the end of a dowel so I can slide a peice of scotchbrite in it then put it in my drill to clean out the bores for the coil packs.

maybe i should create a thread for my engine swap.

 

It may not back in because there is a problem with that coil pack. When they overheat and get swallowing, you will have a problem getting them out and putting them back in. Try other coil pack in the hole. If the coil pack goes in, replace the other coil pack.

 

what do you mean by swallowing? and do you mean the coil pack over overheating?

I will try others to see if its the coil or the hole. still needs some clean up in the hole to wipe out the dry powder from alluminum corrosion. what do you normally lube them with before installing?
