Last time i flew jet blue the plane failed the final takeoff inspection and we had to be routed to a differant flight.. so, they cramed 2 planes into one! did not like the fact that i paid money for my 3 y/o son to have a seat and ended up holding him in my lap for 5 hours!

anyway back to topic.....

The wife has been asking about a cail vacation the last 2 years (friends in the LA area) the local pick and pull sells tranny's for $75 w/ $25 core.. if the funds where there for a vacation, I would be heading ccthomp's way with a rebuild tranny and would only cost what was paid for the tranny and the rebuild kit... i would be happy with only the experiance of it all....

Beer and cars....and the wife back here....YAAAAAAAAAAA!

brohdes....I know,I actually have been reading this thread, that was part tongue in cheek(part not)....and in checking my local resource,I only did it out of curiosity, that and kinda making sure homp knocks prices around best as possible(super expensive here but I knew his ## was high,($800 iirc?).....Definately not a project for someone that hasn't done it before...just the R&R alone is big,AND dangerous...plus once the pan is down it only takes a breeze under the door and things just changed, but yeah, the right conditions and the right place it would be a great learner, and yeah he'de be a huge step ahead.

Hydra got the joke....well,the part of it that was a joke...I just wanna see the guy get the best deal he can....I wasn't suggesting anyone really has the time to fly out and do a tranny

P.S. You're one of the rare few Old School....Not many left, good to know there is still some out there though....

Last time I flew commercial was in 1988, and I decided it needed to be the last commercial flight for me. I've never feared death, and there were a few times during my time in the military that I half-expected it, but on those occasions I at least had the chance to do something about it. I've been in choppers behind nutcase military chopper pilots that don't feel they were doing their job unless they had weeds or treetops (or pieces of goat) caught in the skids when they set it down, but they never made my ******* pucker like that Western Airlines pilot did on that landing. I fly myself, picked up that particular skill while in the military...I'm a pretty good pilot (not to toot my own horn) and have owned a couple of ultralights, but got rid of them when I began to understand that a big life insurance policy won't raise my kids for me.

My point is, I suppose, that I don't fear flying, I just fear it when I'm not the pilot.

Anyway, like you, if I could afford the time, I'd be happy to head to CA and help the guy, but Unlike you...I'd make him pay up on the steak and beer I sold my bike last Spring and haven't bought another yet, but if I were to be really honest, I don't think I'd be riding to California this time of year again. Did that in December 2006, coldest I've ever been in my life, 85mph@35 degrees x 1800 miles.

Nice, didn't know you were a pilot,(or that you served) awesome skill. Seems you and Old School both have had bad experiences flying, I don't really trust commercial planes myself, I always wind up white knuckled on Southwest visiting my sister in
Tuscan...scares me every time but I love flying.
I hear ya about the skidders, makes ya wonder if you need an "adult undergarment",and you're right,I think the army trolls the nuthouse for pilots...something screwy with everyone I've met but it probably takes that to fly one....even my bro in law and he's a fixed wing.
@ Old School, having your son in your lap is the most disturbing thing I've heard lately,so wrong... I'm way over protective my mine, that would've had me screaming at them, let alone that you paid for a seat, sorry to hear it.
Back to topic,,,
@ ccthomp,I hope everything goes well. Almost any option is expensive,I just hope that you get your $$'s worth and get your D back in great shape. At least after starting this thread you know what to look and ask for, sometimes being armed with information is the best thing...Best of luck with it....Can't wait to hear when you get it back and you're driving it...

Well, this is why you're here.I know it sucks but at least you have the guys answering your questions and when you DO get it back I bet you won't let this happen again....
2 qts low.....I shudder asking but it makes me wonder if the whole thing could've been avoided right there......Maintenance,it's all about checking them and keeping up...and yeah the other didn't say a word about it,that ain't right...
P.S, Don't focus on being mad at yourself get it fixed and just make sure you don't let it happen again....hope it all gets better man...

AAMCO will start work on it on Mon and I am praying that it comes in on the low estimate they gave me, (fingers crossed). Been driving a co-workers Nissan to and from work and well I miss the V8.
