Default Rear Hatch

How do I pop the door handle off the rear door hatch? ANd how do I take a look at why my rear door hatch won't unlock? The Key has never turned ever since I bought the truck 2 months ago, and just last night, the rear hatch decided the electronic lock wasn't going to unlock it either, just need to be able to open it!!

Have to put my nice big tool box in my truck this weekend and its the only way to get it in!

the only way i know of to get the handle off is from the inside, this was done intentionally to make it harder for people to break into the truck and steal your stuff.

you need to get the inside panel off (idk if you can do that with the door closed) and lubricate everything inside there very well, that should get you back in business.

yeah without being able to get the hatch open you're pretty much stuck. My hatch doesn't always like to open with the key, without fiddling with it for a few minutes. Try messing with it for a while and see if you can open it with the key. Maybe spray some lps2 in the key hole and see if that helps either make it work with the key or the electrics. Once you get it open then you can lubricate it from the inside.

I had trouble with mine a few years back.
In my case the door lock has never been refitted for my current ignition key.
it was a repo a few years before I purchased it and the lift-gate was missed by the locksmith.

So anyway it was intermittent with the power door lock.
Finally got it open and lubed the mechanism.

So now the door handle isn't working proper so I guess I need to tear it apart again.

When I first bought my '99, the handle was disconnected (popped off), probably due to the fact that the previous owner reversed into something and dented it pretty good. I was able to crawl in the inside, and CAREFULLY pull back the interior trim panel. It's pretty flexible and is on clips so it will pop off. Reach in there, find the actuating rod and give it a pull.

Once you get it opened then you can remove the handle.

The only other thing I could think of was to have someone hitting the door handle from the outside as you messed with the power lock.

Good luck.
Once you get it lubed up maybe you & I both should get the key-lock fixed and then we'll both be a little more at ease!

lol radar, that was the first though to mind, I had the wife start the truck, and keep hitting the button to unlock while I beat the living crap out of the door handle, didn't work lol.

I am definitely going to fix it once I get it open!

maybe you could get to the mechanism enough to open it if you take the dome light out
