One question: From what I understand the factory original plate isn't thick enough to prevent it from warping and consequently, unless you put replace it with something thicker, this repair will be a recurring necessity as it will warp and continue to blow out the gasket.

That is my understanding as well, however I have no personal experience with this.

 

Thickness is not necessary the concern. The block is iron while the plenum is aluminum. When heated, they expand at different rates causing the gasket to separate.

Well count me in as one of the plenum victims. I can actually see where the gasket blew out right under the TB. I have decided to do the Kegger mod this weekend while doing this and valve cover gaskets cause they are starting to get very wet. Ok here is the question, when you guys have done this what did have you used to clean up the mating surface with the head? Will a scratch pad or steel wool work for this?

 

Im doing the exact same thing right now. Today ive got to finsish cleaning the gaskets. Ive just used a small wire brush on the heads and manifold But id like to know if there is a better way because I cant get it all off. I got most of ot but its not perfect. And I CANNOT get the gasket on the plenum itself off for the life of me. Its stuck on really bad.

 

To clean the mating surface of the head, use a razor blade, a rag, and a can of acetone. That's how I did it.

let me know how your intake mod goes adukart and how long it takes to do that and the gasket replacement together. i plan on doing the same soon but cant have my truck be out of commission for too long because of work
