Just a reminder.. Durangos have ALOT of ground issues. I hooked up a amp and 12" sub in mine and I found myself moving the ground wire alot trying to find a constant connection. So if you have any more problems look at that

if you had ground problems with an aftermarket unit that was likely installer error, my 10 year old truck has had no ground problems at all (granted i dont have any aftermarket electronics installed). while it is a possibility in this case i wouldnt call them common

Not sure, I wasn't the original installer (just been fixing the rats nest of wires that was in there. As soon as I posted, I let the wife take the D to the store (she enjoys it WAY too much) and about half way to the store it cut on and has stayed on since apparently. Guess I need to do some major investigation and see if I can find the short, because I have narrowed it down to short or bad head unit.

its a short, the question is if it is in the head unit, or the wires going to the headunit.

I had a stereo in in my ramcharger that acted the same way, cuttin in and out and such. The whole issue was when the guy installed it he didn't use a dedicated case ground from the stereo,it was grounding through the antenna and that wasn't a very good contact. As soon as I ran a ground from the rear of the stereo it work fine and no more gremlins.I know some systems use a common ground in the harness for the speakers, not sure about the Durango Infinity but with all the wire you're finding maybe something there?Try running a new dedicated ground off the stereo and see if it helps...
P.S. maybe sharp knows if the speaks share a common ground or a wiring diagram in the FSM....

Thanks Dirt, awesome site!

I am not one to mess with the electronics on cars, always afraid I am going to snip the wrong wire! I wish I was more knowledgeable in the electronics, would love to hook up more lights to the D
