Diff tire sizes front to back, problem?
Just bought 235x75x15 for the front and have 31x10.5x15 on the rear. Could this cause a problem? It was offered as an option on tire.com.
The guy at the tire shop said that it might cause problems with the 4x4 and/or transfer case.
The only reason I bought them was price, I'm out of work and they were the least expensive.
Thanks

I would think that the potential problem would be that with different sized tires on each axel, each axel will turn a different speed. For driving in 2Hi it should be fine I would think, but in 4WD, the transfer case locks the front and rear axel into turning the same speed. However, (unless you have the R/T with the full time AWD) since you can't use the 4WD on dry pavement anyway, it might not cause a problem, I'm sure someone more experienced will know.
definitely do not use 4wd part time or you will destroy your transfer case. In 4wd full time/awd difference in rational speed between the axles is allowed. I'm not sure exactly how the center diff acts, but if it's like a normal axle diff it isn't designed for large differences in speed over long period of time. I would never put different size tires on a 4wd vehicle and highly suggest you get all tires the same size if you plan on using 4wd
yup differently sized tires will cause problems over time
you CANNOT engage the 4x4 with it or else you WILL blow up the transfer case
you CANNOT run AWD with different sized tires as it will damage the t-case
and it will poorly affect the handling of the vehicle, all tires the same size is thew ay to go

maybe when it comes to the transfer case but like shrp said your handling will be weird too. If you have 4 wheel abs that'll be screwed up too. You really should keep all tires the same size
Not possible, the tires are on the truck. I had to get tires, so I could pass inspection and that was over due by 1year. I just use the truck for commuter driving and don't use 4WD unless there's alot of snow.
Do you foresee any problems driving on blacktop, 40-60mph for the next 2000 miles?
