Question New guy here

I just picked up a 2003 4.7l rango about a week ago. I'm just curious to what everyone is running for performance mods and their opinion on the products. Also looking for the best gains for a small to average budget. I have a few ideas on exhausts CAI's etc. But i would like to hear what you guys are running and how you feel about them. Thanks again.

Welcome Check out the DIY thread. There is a custom cold air or "home brew" that many of us are running, I personally saw 1.5-2mpg increase. Depends on driving habits though. Superchips programmers seem to be the favorites around here.

Get a nice exhaust. And some performance headers. Your rig will sound great and you'll gain an adequate amount of power.

Hydra is right, not much for the 4.7 other than the intake and exhaust. But if you have anything bigger you'd have a whole list of items to add on. I got over it, mine still runs awesome!

If you plan on doing a major performance upgrade, I think the cheapest way to gain a considerable amount of power gain is to swap the 4.7 to the new current HO 4.7 that is rated over 300HP.

Thanks for the replies guys. At this point i don't have the funds to do a swap. (I'm also currently working on a 89 mustang project) I'm looking for the most cost effective ways to squeeze as much as i can out of the my little 4.7l. But I'm finding that im limited to what i can do. I have an exhaust and headers in mind and thinking about doing a Home-brewed CAI. Anyone have any recommendations for a superchip?

IMHO, headers won't do much if anything for the 4.7 as the factory manifolds are already pretty free breathing. SuperChips looks to be the one for tuning, I'm considering a FlashPaq myself to play with.

Save the money and put more of it into the 'Stang instead, although I might be *slightly* biased here! (I've owned a "few" over the years)

headers arent going to gain you anything worth their cost until you are pushing 500hp area on the 4.7, there are HO cams available (or there were) but unfortunately the 4.7 didnt get the same acceptance from the aftermarket as the older dodge truck engines.
