Smile Help finding a good mechanic in Chicago

Hi all. I'm new to the group. I would like to say thank you all for your posts & comments. So far I learned how to change the turn signal relay by myself. I also learned (from readinf your forum) that my 99 D needs a heater core! I would like some recommendations on a repair shop in Chicago, Il if you know any. I contacted Midway Dodge & was told it would be 7 1/2 hr job and cost me $975-$1050!!!!! HELP MR PLEASE! I love the 1st generation Durangos! This is my 2nd one. my 1st was a 5.2 named Flash & this one is a 5.9 named Ruby

A dealer repair at that price is good.

See if they will only add parts expense and ONE HOUR extra labor to do an evap and fan swap while in there. There is NO OTHER work necessary (price excludes AC recharge... you need to add that) since they are all right there.

If so, run with it all. If they are losers, they will want a full additional $975-$1050 and then run away.

Heater core isn't as bad as it sounds. Certainly isn't fun, and you kind of get overwhelmed when everythign is apart, but putting it back together is actually pretty simple. I would say look at it and do it your self for 200 bucks like me :-) and that was changing the A/C evap with it!

Smile Thanks

Thanks for the info. They guy I spoke to seemed like he was on top of everything. He said they will replace any worn parts for that price. I wish I could do it myself because the heater core is only $45 new!

Not that expensive of a part just a pain in the butt to install if patience isnt your forte. Good luck on the repair hope the mechanic can be on top of it and take care of the problem! and like turbo said if ya ever need advice or help theres a lot of wonderful people on this forum!

I'm going to take it to Midway Dodge in Chicago. I took Flash to South Chicago Dodge to get my oil changed & found out 2500 miles later that they had left my oil cap off and I had been riging around without a oil cap. Needless to say they won't get their hands on Ruby! I plan on keeping her for a long time

I can top that. Had a freeze plug on the back of the block blow out. If I wouldn't have done it myself it would've been over a grand in labor (taking tranny down and all that fun stuff) you replace a 25 cent piece of stamped brass.

Mary Rose, I would never go back to that place that left the cap off if I were you. They sound nearly as bad as jiffy lube

The evap and fan are worn too. It is VERY good practice to replace all three parts when you pull the dash. If not, you will be pulling it all out again for the other part failures VERY soon. That's another $1000+ each and every time. Maybe that helps highlight the reasoning behind pushing for all three replacement parts at once. VERY little extra labor if done in unison.
