Default 2001 4x4 Front End Clunk/Grind

I have a metal on metal sound coming from the front driver side wheel while I'm driving or spinning the tire. I've searched, and I'm thinking it either has to be the hub or CV. Here is a video, let me know what you think.

Also, it doesn't make a difference whether I'm turning or not, noise is still there. Some days it is louder than others.

Thanks for the help!

Probably a wheel bearing hub. However, we can't see anything. It could be a brake issue like a stuck caliper dragging your pads...

Sorry...the wheels are off the ground and I'm spinning them. I will try to get an actual video of the wheel tomorrow.

Also, it is about 10x louder when 4WD is engaged. A grinding metal on metal sound.

Thanks!

it leads me to believe that its a cv axle if its only appening in 4x4. try grabbing the shaft of the cv and wiggling it or turning it by hand. if it moves freely from either end of the cv then that would be the issue

I'm stumped. Took the tire off, checked the brakes, tie rod, and cv, and nothing has any play what so ever. When I turn the wheel, it sounds like the clunking is coming from the inner portion of the cv, so I guess I will take that off tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.

Just spun the tire while it was off the ground. I'll have someone else turn it while I get underneath it just to make sure, but I'm pretty sure its the inner CV.

if you do replace the cv do the other one while your at it. i had the drivers side go out and replaced it. a week later the passenger side went too. so i had to go through it all again. not my favorite part to replace thats for sure.
