Default 99 Durrango Trans issues.

My friends trans used to slip going from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes 3rd to 4th but now it won't shift out of 1st. The shifting plates need to be replaced?
Thanks for your help.

I would do a complete trans service. That includes purging, replacing filters, and band adjustments.

Check the speed sensor on the transmission as well. I ripped mine out wheeling one day and was stuck in first the whole way home. It's like a 15 dollar part at auto zone

I would drop the pan and inspect the band adjustments and replace the filter. Just like adukart had said in his post. But before you do any repairs, Did you check the fluid level?

What brand ATF fluid are you using?? Reason i say this is because a few months ago i sprung a leak in my tranny cooler lines and blew most of my fliud out in the parking lot of the supermarket. Luck for me i had some extra pieces of fuel line and some hose claps in the back so i could make a temp. fix but, i had to fill it back up with store brand ATF "for all auto trans" ( I know BIG no no) and the tranny ran like sh*t doing all sorts of things. Once i got home she was parked untill i had a chance for a full tranny service.

Ok I will first inspect the transmission

2. do a good fluid change with +4?

3. Adjust the band.

Any thing else before I tear it all apart if 2 and 3 dont work? What do I do for a rebuild? links?

There is a service manual you can download. Other then that use the search function, http://www.dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-...wers-faqs.html
