Default Stereo Install

I have a 2001 Durango with 4.7l SLT that I am getting ready to put a new stereo into. (old ones buttons are dying). I have installed stereos before but not in a durango and understand there might be some hints/tricks/good things to do. It does have the infinity sound system in it. when installing the new deck is there anything different I need to do to make it work with the stock amp that I assume it has? Also how do you get the panel off to remove the stock player? thanks for any advise just want to make sure I do this right the first time.

Also is this a 6 pack level job or will I need a 12? lol

If you do a search you'll find several threads explaining how to wire to the stock amp and probably answers to all your other questions. The installation kit should have directions explaining how to get into to the dash though.

install in my 02 was a piece of cake..

If you remove the driver seat, rear seat and door panels, that like 2/3 of the work.. After that its just mounting amps and running cables.. Head was kindy crappy as it took me forever to figure out how to get the old one out.. 20$ walmart wiring harness and 15$ mounting kit did the trick.. Sadly, the pics below show the install of the amp/speakers and not so much the head, but it might give you some motivation to go all out... The head wasnt that hard as 90% of the dash is just clips.. there are 2 panels on the driver side you can (but dont have to) remove.. Once dash it off, Unscrew bolts for head, pull out, unplug, add harness, install mount reapply dash, hook up harness to stereo, push stereo into place, install the surround cover.. That easy..

With experience, its a 6 pack job.. If you wanna take your time to perfect everything its a 24/Keg.. My dual amp, head, speakers and tweeter install took me and my brother ~5 hours and about 30 beers (for me, Brother doesnt drink, lol) :-P

Some pics of the install

What we are working with

Removing the seats

Removing Door Panels

Checking Routes under carpet

Making my power and ground cables for amps

Hiding the crossover in the door panel

Running the speaker wires (Had to drill thru a couple of these connectors as they were the only feed for speaker wire)

Door panels slicing me up a bit

Dorito Break

Mount of Amp and power splitter (Rear)

Mount amp Under Driver Seat (Height and length of amp matter!)

Making my bro do the cleanup

Front Seats Back in (Shows Clearance)

End Results

(Not pictured is the removal of dash, 1F capacitor mounted in rear cupholder, and tweeters mounted at top of pillar at windshield)
