2001 4.7 to 5.7 swap
Many factors to why the PCM won't run a hemi, as it sits. The cam duration, spark timing, dual spark plugs, cam timing, air/fuel, intake manifold design, general displacement is different, ect. Now if someone could custom flash in a hemi tune to the old pcm it may work but it would be simpler to switch out the pcm. If you get this done you will have to post a video cause it is a cool idea.
why not SCT with a hemi tune? is there more to it?
You do have to make some custom plates for the motor mounts as was done on the dakota build. I do believe the cam duration is the same the sensor is still reading from a tone ring that turn once on 2 revalutions just like the 4.7.. As for the coils you just need the ones from the earlier hemi that run a wire to the other side for the second plugs. On my 01 D my coil pack connectors do have 3 wires but obviuosly the third one does nothing. The air fuel mix shouldnt change as that is what the o2 sensors are for. The displacement makes no difference on this and the computer will still keep the air/fuel mix at the set temp range. The hard part is finding headers to fit. Or alot of time custom bending the exhaust. Im trying to find a donor motor closer to home since my 5.7 is still in MI.
Monkey,
Your signature says your swapping in from a 00 jeep. Is that an H.O. motor? I pulled mine from a 03. The H.O. has a little better intake. The heads have a smaller chamber and the pistons have a little bit of a dome to them. I didnt really notice the 30 horse gain but the cams did give a bit more low end. All the H.O. motors as far as I know are 16 tooth.

HO didn't come out till '02 as far as I know but you could get regular one once after the HO came out. I dont think all HO are 16 tooth, actually thought they were all 32 tooth. I do have an '02 HO core complete with intake, cams, injectors. might do something with one day. in reality 30hp isn't much so im not surprised you didn't notice it, plus thats 30hp up high I think around 4100rpm.
It wont work, lots of differences.
Anyway the motor mounts will be completely different as well. If you do get it bolted in and PCM swapped I would be interested to see how it all plays out.
Good luck.

you are only partially correct. The o2 sensors manage the a/f ratio when the engine is under closed loop operating conditions, this occurs AFTER the engine is warmed up, until that time the computer uses a predetermined amount based on how much the throttle is open to calculate and distribute fuel to the engine, the hemi will NOT run right with the 4.7 PCM while it is cold PERIOD
