2001 4.7 to 5.7 swap
I've only seen the one post for the Dakota. And its a great write up. But has anyone considered just changing the crank sensor and the reluckter? I havent tried yet but it looks like it'll bolt right on the crank. The cam sensor is the same and the 4.7 coil connecters plug onto the the hemi. I've got a 5.7 with a blown head gasket and it looks like everything would plug right in. The intake seems to be the only problem but I think the throotle body off the 4.7 will bolt on. I may be wrong here but it sounds like a lot less stress than all that wiring. Maybe some of you techs can add some insite here. I'm currently running a 2003 Power Tech 4.7 H.O. in my D from a Jeep. The extra ponies is not noticable at all. And tho its rated for better mpg it's actually worse. That may be do to not using the TCM but if your gonna loose the milage you should be able to feel the extra power.
Do the grand cherokee TCM swap to gain the 5th ratio. Then you don't have to change out the tranny.
Why wouldnt the pcm run the Hemi? The tone ring is a direct fit and the cam sensor is the same. I mean one revalution is still one revalution.
Yeah Ive already got the TCM. Only gonna use it when heading to MI. Seeing as I live in AL. and its nothing but hills it does me little good here.
Subscribing as this has really gained my interest. You make very legitimate points with this as well.

the HEMI uses a different tune because it is a different size engine, you WILL need the HEMI PCM in order for it to work correctly, there is no way around this
Many factors to why the PCM won't run a hemi, as it sits. The cam duration, spark timing, dual spark plugs, cam timing, air/fuel, intake manifold design, general displacement is different, ect. Now if someone could custom flash in a hemi tune to the old pcm it may work but it would be simpler to switch out the pcm. If you get this done you will have to post a video cause it is a cool idea.
