It is a V8 4.7L not sure transmission. It is 4x4. It has been running fine until a day ago my son took it to the store he shut it off and it would not even turn over to start. Replaced the fuel filter in the tank less than a year ago. When the key is turned you can hear the fuel filter running. but it does not even turn over. My husband took the starter off and we had it checked it was good. We bought a new battery about 8 months ago we even put a new battery in it and it still does not turn over. He checked the fuses and relays and they appear good. Not sure what to do next. Looking for some more troubleshooting ideas.

 

Did you check all the fuses under the hood in the PDC and in the cab by the drivers door? I would double check the big 40a fuse in PDC for the marked "IGN" id also double check your battery terminals are tight and clean.

 

checked both places for the fuses and made sure battery terminals were clean and connected tight. Do you have any more suggestions all are welcomed and thanks

 

swap the starter relay with a relay of the matching number in the PDC (black box under the hood) it sounds to me like your not getting power to the starter

try jumping power to the starter with a set of j umper cables and see if the starter will turn, if it turns over this way then you just have to look at the power supply between the starter and the battery.

EDIT: be very careful to hook up to the starter first (or pull the starter off the truck) this way your hands are not in any dangerous positions when you spin the starter (basically if you cant safely touch it with the engine running you cannot safely touch it now)

 

Has to be a terminal or a battery wire to starter, or starter. Here is a diagnostic procedure you can try.

 

Husband tested the voltage on batterry posts stayed 12volts and he tested voltage on starter. Someone at work told him it may be the neutral safety switch but when I called the dodge dealers they said my durango does not have that but the auto parts stores told me it was a part they could order for it. Does anyone know who is bluffing the dealer or auto parts store? Much needed suggestions still welcomed and thank you for the responses.

 

Uhhh... Whoever you talked to at the dealership was an imbecile. Yes your vehicle has a NSS, it is located on the driver side of the transmission, just below the 8-way solenoid connector.

Try puting the shift lever into the Neutral position and starting the vehicle. If it starts right up then replace the sensor and, badda bing badda boom.

 

Tried putting in neutral to start and still does not even turn over. Please let me know any more suggestions. We have a mechanic gonna take a look at it tomorrow evening so I will post what I find out. In the mean time I am still open for suggestions. Thanks
