if the shifter in the floor is in nuetral the truck will roll even with the transmission in park, this is designed so that you can tow the vehicle w/o leaving the key in the ignition.

in order to lock the driveline when you put it in park you need to have the floor shifter in either 2wd, 4x4 or 4x4lo

you can shift between 2hi and 4hi while moving under 50mph (I may off on that) as long as you're not feeding any gas. You have to stop to go into 4lo since you would be going through neutral. Make sure you don't use 4wd on pavement or you'll mess up the transfer case

that_guy, you are close

you can shift 2wd to 4hi or 4hi to 2wd while moving at speeds under 40, you shouldnt use 4wd over 40mph because it will increase drivetrain wear.

for normal driving leave the truck in 2wd and you will be fine, when it snows or you go off road and traction is reduced you can use 4wdhi for that, 4wd low is for low speed high torque situation (pulling a boat up a wet ramp)

in order to get into 4wd low you need to stop and put the transmission into nuetral.
