Ok I just replaced plugs a week ago tonight. What are you thinking. Like I said I have been throwing money at this thing lately and nervous at what point. I have been concerned that the PCM is really hot when temperature guage hits 210. 'm no expert just trying to explain. ARE PCM known to go out on these things?

the pcms are problems on the 98 and 99 trucks with the 5.2 and 5.9l engines in dark colors, in 2000 the mounting issue was fixed so for the most part the PCMs are solid in these trucks, however nothing is 100% bulletproof.
when it decides not to start can you hear the fuel pump running? do you have good fuel pressure?

Actually it was 1999 for the most part, don't know exactly why but that is where the issue lays, 1998 didn't have that issue for what ever reason?
With the backfire I would think about replacing the pre-cat O2 sensors with DESNO name brand or NTK.
Also replace the spark plugs with the cheap Champion Copper plugs gaped to .040 before install. Accept no other.

ok fuel pressure is good and the fuel pump pressures up. I replaced the o2 sensor after the cat on Saturday and started running really good. Drove around for awhile then came home. Got in it later drove around and it quit again. This time no bus and all gauges stayed in the same position till I removed the white plug off the pcm. Got in it and it ran for awhile. Then later still had a call at the firehouse came home from station and it quit running three times. I'm at a loss. Today started and ran just fine had to turn it over twice but it was fine after that. So any further ideas.
