Default Transmission won't shift

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango 4.7L 4WD. I just changed the transmission fluid and both filters. I put everything back together and the transmission will not engage. Any Ideas? I saw somewhere that if the filter was not seated properly it might cause this problem.

Thanks for any help.

That is true, If the seal is not installed in the pump correct it will cause you not to have any gears. If you use a 5/8 socket and a extension. Tap the seal up into the pump.

Just to be sure. I am assuming that you are refering to the flat filter with the arm and NOT the round "oil filter" looking filter. Why would this filter cause this problem? I would think that if not seated properly, the transmission would wear prematurely because of the filter not working optimally. Is there a sensor in there?

Thanks for your help.

Could be a pressure sensor kind of thing . . .

The seal i was writing about goes to the flat filter with the neck. That neck goes into the transmission pump.

Thanks guys! The flange at the end of the flat filter was it. I didn't have it properly seated into the transmission. Once I got it right and put everything back together, the transmission works great. I never thought that something that simple would cause this problem. Live and learn.

Yep,

I find a lot of these issues are caused by that seal, and either not removing the old one that is stuck up in there, or not installing then new one correctly.

Glad to see you got it fixed!
