Default Can a bad t-case cause issues in 2wd?

98 5.9SLT - Previously thought I was chasing a trans problem but all seems well there.

When I lift of the throttle there is a whirring noise and truck drops to idle. Hit the gas and it revs, clunks, back in business afterwards. Even towing 6k lbs it was fine under load.

Makes a whirring noise trying to reverse. Reverse will only work in 4lo.

Does not hold in park, seems like still in neutral. Don't suspect the parking pawl as again do not have this issue in 4lo.

What can break in the tcase to cause this? Is there a selector for 2wd internally?

The answer is yes. The transfer case cause a lot problems. The chain drive and hubs inside the t-case.
