Default Tie rods?

Lifted my truck up this week to do a check on the suspension and steering and i found that my passenger side tie rod moves up and down. Aside from that the driver and passenger side tie rods can be rotated by hand. Are they supposed to rotate or is there a deeper problem? The passenger side is busted for sure though.

Since that is all part of the rack and pinion, its more than likely the whole rack may need to be replaced. That doesn't sound safe to have it on the road...

yeah, but if they are wollered out, because he said he had up and down play in the inners...that would mean busted rack ends...would it not?

I meant that the outers move up and down. Both the inners and outers just rotate or swivel.

Rotating means the set nut isn't tight to the end of the rod causing it to turn. I just did mine due to having the same issue you have. Just do the tie rods inner and outer on both sides better safe then sorry.

Eventually did both inners and outters. It was straight forward and it made the steering just a bit tighter like it should be thanks again guys.
