Nice explanation shrps, but for those who want to know exactly how that is possible there are 3 sets of planetary gears in the rfe, each a different ratio. Now there are two different ratio gears that can select the the planetarys to send power out the back, hence 2*3=6. giving the 6 ratios shrps posted.

 

I called local dodge dealer and asked if they can flash my tcm on my 2002 dodge ram quad with 4.7 and 45rfe to convert to a 545rfe. They said yes, but I am getting mixed signals about doing this. I have read that dodge won't take jeep programs unless you change to a jeep tcm. what is correct? Also is it just plug and play or do I have to reteach the tcm?
