Question TCM Reflash: From 2002 to 2004

Okay so I've got a 2002 Grand Cherokee TCM installed in my Durango. I was wondering if anyone actually knows what the differences are between a 2002 TCM program vs a 2004 TCM program are with the Jeep 545RFE. I have been debating having the "Computer Reconfiguration" done but am not sure if it will benefit enough to justify the Dealers fees.

There is a TCCM program you can swap to that "adds" a gear to the program. Improves shifts and gas milage. Hit up Dan at TheFastMan.com to ask about it. I think he was selling or has sold something related to it.

indy:
TCCM is transfer case control module
TCM is transmission control module

im pretty sure you meant the TCM in this case, just trying to clear it up for any newbies that arent 100% on what is going on.

It adds a gear? Its already made my 45RFE a 545RFE so you've got me confused. Im wanting to know it it inproves shift points or anything.

Yes TCM, not TCCM. Late night typo.

Per Dan on the "upgrade" for Durango 2001 & 2002 4.7s...
This upgrade is for 01 and 02 4.7 Dodges with a separate TCM (Transmission Control Module) If your 4.7 vehicle's PCM (Power Control Module) has 3 lugs this is for you. If your PCM has 4 lugs you already have a 5 speed.

It's impossible to flash a Dodge TCM with Jeep software. Though, if you replace your TCM with a TCM out of a 2001 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7/RFE package you can turn your 45RFE into a 545RFE.

If you use a 2002 TCM you don't have to worry. This is the part# used. 56041905AD.
I have also used 2003 and 2004 56044574AC Jeep TCM's.

Simply Remove and Replace your original TCM with the JGC TCM unit and instant 5 speed.
With that said, the original poster has already done the swap so he was asking about flashing that TCM for some other reason. OP, my suggestion is to leave it alone. One to many swaps/upgrades/variables down the road and the compatibility for the Jeep may not work with the Durango after the flash. Who knows. Reconfig/Recalibrate at your own risk.

Default Not understanding

How does a 4 speed transmission gain a gear by just changing the tcm?
Does it now do 1st 2nd prime 2nd 3rd and 4th giving you the sense of 5 speed or what?

the 45 and 545rfe both have 6 forward gear ratios in them

1) 3:1
2) 1.67:1 2')1.5:1
3) 1:1
4) .75:1
5) .67:1

the transmission is computer controlled so if you have 45RFE you have software which only uses 4 (ok fine 5 including the kickdown) forward gears, however swapping the TCM to one which has the newer software utilizes all 5(ok 6) forward gears, its just a matter of changing the software to use all of the hardware available.
