I get about 8-10mpg loaded down, 3-8000lbs, with my 5.9l. Turn the O/D off it will make a substantial difference in power and how it cruises. Now I have also found the fuel economy to not change or get better with the O/D while towing. It takes a huge load off the engine. Besides basic physics will tell you that having the tranny in a lower gear means more power to the ground for any given rpm. That is also why lower gearing in the Diff's is preferred for towing and off-roading, you are actually getting more power to the ground which means less throttle and stress on the drivetrain.

yea thats why im switching to like a 4.11 or 4.56. cuz when i do haul stuff its never a light load. i got my big boat and a double axle trailer that I mainly use for hauling wood, but i use the trailer to help out my uncle every now and then. and when i help him i haul his tractors around to his different farms.
but yea i always have the o/d off unless im cruzing on the flats. also i have noticed if i shift manualy from 1st to 2nd then to drive it tends to haul easier at a higher rmp.
my d has a problem with it always wanting to shift out of 1st early, even when im hauling a heavy load. then when it hits 2nd it takes a while for it to get up to speed.
is my shifting problem caused to an improper tv cable setting? or would that be an internal tranny problem like a bad valve body or stuck springs?

ok, i havent adjusted it all i had taken it to a transmission shop befor and had them adjust it, they said it seemed to be just right. but i guess not. ill have to take it back then. i just hope they dont charge me $50 again. that seemed like alot to me for them to just adjust a cable and take for 1 ride. it only took em like 20 min also. i thought great that didnt take to long. but hey we will see if they really adjust it right this time.
