Default need some advice.

Hey guys im looking at an 01 Dakota (i know its not a Durango but the Dakota side of this forum is either dead or not as friendly?), 4x4 4.7 with 170k on the clock. It needs some tlc. As far as i can see it needs seals on the front axle, exhaust manifold has a leak. VERY rusty underneath. And it seems to be in limp mode. Starts in 2nd gear, won't go into o/d, and the gear selector disappears when you put it into drive. Checked the mil and it comes back as o2 sensors and an evap leak. Do you guys think it would be worth $2000?

if i knew what was wrong with it and that it was an easy fix, sure but not knowing exactly what is wrong (something is causing it to be in limp mode and its NOT an oxygen sensor or evap leak) if you really need a pickup offer him 1k and see what happens, but i wouldnt pay $2k for it

I went ahead and got it anyways. After 2 hours of probing i found a ground on pin 53 of the tcm that wasnt grounded. I piggy backed into it and ran to a ground on the firewall. Limp mode is gone, gear selector square stopped roaming, t/c locks up. Does anyone know where pin 53 grounds to so i can fix it the right way?

Here is the link to the 2000 Dakota FSM should be mostly the same as the '01 manual... section 8w is the wire diagrams and 8w-80 is the pin outs... happy digging!

if you are working on a 2001 truck i would recommend the 2002 FSM as it will be much closer than the 2000

most likely, but the FSM will probably have more wiring diagrams so if the haynes manual doesnt have what you need then check the FSM

Checked through the wiring diagrams, consulted a mechanic who looked on alldata. Closest thing we can come up with is the ground at the relay in the pd box. They said to just waterproof my temporary fix and make it a perm. Fix.
