Entertainment System
Hey everyone, I just purchased an 03 Dodge Durango with 155k miles, it runs and drives great and I really like it, but the entertainment system (part of the reason I bought it) gives the error "Disc format error" every time I insert a disc. I have tried multiple discs, old and new, and have inserted them upside down and right side up and it doesn't make a difference. I used to work on computers, and I might take it apart and try to fix it. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this before I decide to tear into it. I appreciate any advice, thank you!
Found it for sale here: http://www.dodgepartsstore.com/produ...a965c931ff6d0b
Honestly I have never seen nor heard of someone with one of these in a 1st gen. Durango. Kinda cool, learn something new everyday. As for the issue I honestly don't know and would just be guessing. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I am in no way experienced with this system nor have i ever heard of it. But i know that in some cases you can adjust the dvd and cd potentiometers (basically turn up the power to the laser) to fix disc read errors. I have done it myself on an xbox 360 and would not recommend it unless you have 2 things. An ohm meter and what the correct power output should be when testing it. Turning the put switch even one degree causes big jumps in the readings.idk where to tell you to look to find the correct output. Hope i helped a little, sorry i couldn't help more.

Well, I took it apart and the drive it has I can't find anywhere.
What was written on it was:
Visteon VP2DNF-19B160-AA
MODB001852
S1629

Mopar 82206274

I took apart the drive and cleaned the lens using a q-tip with some water on it. I put it back together and now it seems to work. The drive is still slow to accept and eject discs, but at least it now works
. I can't believe they want $1,100 for a new unit.

You could try oiling up the moving parts to make it eject easier, i would refrain from using grease or wd 40 since they will attract dust and you will be back in the same situation. They make oil specifically for this but last time i looked it was kinda pricey. Guess you will have to weigh the price versus how annoyed you are with the slow eject.
