i will also add that there is exactly 0 reason to replace the timing chain while you are in there, unless they are broken or look damaged leave em alone, they are meant to be a lifetime part (replace them at rebuild time only) unless something goes very very wrong

If that gasket is bad, the vacuum of the intake system literally sucks it up from the lifter valley into the intake keg, which is where all the air / fuel is distributed to the cylinder chambers.

Don't mean to seal this thread but when you talking about oil in there?? Are you saying that oil is where the outside of the sparkplug hole?? An is all of em have oil in em,, If oil is on the outside of the sparkplug hole then it could be thar the valvecover gasets leakin,,

Thanks Sooper for all the advice! I'm excited to have my truck healthy and to not have to keep pouring in a quart of oil every month. I think I'm going to order the hughes kit and dis cap and rotor also. And no there isn't oil in the spark plug holes....just in the place where Sooper said to look in the engine. This is a great forum. I want to keep my Durango

Very welcome. I hope this solves the bulk of your issues. Report back later if not, and we'll work through those too.
