Default viscous fan removal

is there a way of removing the 1 mounting nut without destroying anything other than using the special tool( costs too much for my budget )? need to keep the pulley from spinning when the nut is rotated.

I used the long needle nose 90 degree pliers. Cut the tips down enough to get into place and a firm hold up against the water pump and a 10-15" Cresant wrench. A 10 will work if you can get the mouth open enough. Open all the way if not far enough file down the screw at its termination to get it to turn a bit more.

There is a lot different under your Hood than my 1998 318. They have a strap wrench, not so aggressive, along with the pliers in the pulley. I work with turbines and a strap and a "Texas hot Rod " are in the gangbox! That's a torch to heat a big stud to break a nut!!!

yeah, if your pulley has holes in it you should be alright, but if yours doesn't like mine, you'll need to use a strap-wrench of some sort; either an real one like rjlane used in his video, or a makeshift one from an old serpentine belt like I usually do.

One other thing. I loaded it up with PB Blaster before I actually got the nut to break. I'm not sure how much it helped, but I was hammering the wrench and breaking my homeade tools before I got the chain strap wrench. The thing that was nice about the strap wrench is that you can do it alone once you get go wedged against the other pulley. My wrench was $10.
