Question 4wd issues that stumped the Dealer

Here's one for you Durango Pros! 03 Durango 4.7 1st gen.

Replaced engine (and tone rings) to 4.7 03 Dakota. No problem.

4wd didn't work. Switch tested, power to it, replaced TCCM (tried 4 different ones incase those were bad too) so TCCM ok, new motor for transfer case installed. We can turn it on with the computer but not in the truck itself.

Called dealer..says TCCM is bad. We've tried 4! Well,then I don't know.

Any suggestions from the peanut gallery?

so the shift motor works fine when you test on the bench, but not once you install it? if thats the case id say its a wiring issue and you need to start tracing wires and see which one is breaking the circuit

Like sharp had said, Maybe a wiring problem. I have seen this before on the 2004 Durango's, were the wire harness had rub on the park brake ratchet. And cause the TCCM not to shift.

Wiring has been tested. No shorts and everything looks good. A new wiring harness was put in as well.

So the switch has power and its good, the wiring from there to the motor is good and the motor itself is good? Have you checked the wiring at the motor with everything hooked up to see if it has voltage? If there's power at the harness and the motor works outside of the truck idk why it wouldn't work installed

if we are correct in saying that it works on the bench, and works hooked up to the truck while NOT installed, and it stops working once you install it something is jammed internal to the t-case its the only option left

Could also have a bad push pin in the connector? At the motor, do you know if the wires were load tested. And do you know if the TCCM has any codes?

All the wiring was tested with a multi-meter. The 4wd can be engaged with the lotus (the hand held scanner) while it's installed in the truck but will not switch on manually. We've tried four different TCCM's and they all do the same thing. I'm trying to find someone who rebuilds TCCMs if that is even possible.
