Possible fuel pump issue but not sure
Hello everyone.
I have a 2001 Durango, 4.7 with 4WD. About two weeks ago, I was driving my truck and it seemed to stop getting gas to the engine. I left the house about 10 minutes earlier and the engine just sputtered and died. I was able to roll to a side street to get off of the road. I tried restarting for a few minutes and it finally started up. I tried to get it home but it died after a few miles. Now if I let it sit for a day or two, it will start right up and run for about a minute then die. It won't restart.
Some history on this issue: About a year ago, I finished filling the gas tank and the engine wouldn't start. It turned over but didn't want to go. As I let it sit for about 10 minutes, it wanted to run but it didn't go more than a second or two. After about 30 or 40 minutes of playing with it, it started up and ran fine. About 6 months later, I had the same problem after coming out of a store. The engine would turn over but it didn't want to run. I played with it for a few hours and still didn't work. I had the truck towed to a nearby shop I often use and they were going to work on it in the morning. The called me the next morning and said it started right up when they went to work on it. They didn't do anything, just turned the key. They started it several times during the day and drove it a few times to try to get it to fail but it kept running.
What I have done so far is add more fuel in case there was a problem with the fuel pick up in the tank. I've checked the relay and it is fine. I am next going to check fuel pressure.
Any ideas? I would hate to replace the fuel pump if I don't have to.
Thanks,
Steve

Listen to the gas tank when you turn the key. Listen to hear the fuel pump working. How much gas is in your truck. I had a similar problem when I was under half a tank. Fuel pump was heating up and would shut off. Definitely check the fuel pressure see if it drops at all.
Your issue has some of the same characteristics of one I am having.....

Thank you for the suggestions.
I tried to listen for the fuel pump to work but there is too much background noise around so I couldn't hear it. I turned the key to ON but didn't hear any sound. I'll have to find someone to turn the key for me to check that.
I had about a quarter tank of gas when the problem occurred. I have added a little over 4 gallons since and still not running.
I just went out and turned the truck on and it ran for about 30 seconds. I can do this every day or so. It seems that fuel is getting into the line but not staying pressurized. I have a fuel pressure gauge that I will use but the engine isn't running so I don't know how accurate my readings will be. I'll post what I find.

Update: Checked fuel pressure at the test port and it read 0 (zero) psi. I checked to be sure it was securely attached and still no pressure. Looks like a fuel pump.

Howdy,
From the research I have done it sounds like if the problem was related to the remote start the issue would present itself as a "no crank".....
I was having a "crank, no start" issue....(no fuel or spark)....I am still tracking it down but my next places to look are the crank sensor/cam sensor.
You will have to share more about your issue for the guys on folks on here to be able to help.
